Regarding unsolicited opinions.

In the context of a post or, perhaps, an ongoing dialogue or discourse you're having with someone, it's expected that opinions will be freely offered and exchanged.However.There are instances that simply puzzle me when people offer unsolicited opinions to tell you that they don't like something you like or hate something you love clearly out of context -- eg. when there's absolutely no discussion over it. Quite frankly, I may not care for someone's favorite ship or fandom or music or movie or book, and I may tell you that -- in the context of a post or dialogue or discourse because the post or dialogue or discourse opens up receptiveness for such opinion without causing offense. And if not offense, at least without inspiring annoyance. Clearly, as I'm multi-fandom and multi-ship and multi-interest oriented (as many of you are),very few people will agree with me across the board on my likes and dislikes. Personally, I appreciate the consideration and respect that almost all of you employ by refraining from assaulting me with unexpected and unsolicited opinions regarding my preferences or else negating them. And sometimes, with the very few, it's just time to part ways and move on. Ces't la vie. Not all rivers are meant to run parallel to the ends of the earth./end horrible attempt at poeticsAlso: be conscious of the inbox.

That's very odd, I don't think I've ever seen that before in the manner that you're describing it, at least not on LJ, something just coming out of the blue. I've seen other things (both in my LJ and others) that seem very out of place ... you know, someone talking about something very personal and serious and usually sad and a comment coming in asking for a fic update ... but I don't think I've seen what you're talking about. Well, I've received that sort of thing in emails but that's a different thing entirely, at least to me ... Hello!

Hi there! :DHmmm. You make a very good point. My mind is completely focused on something that just happened very recently that inspired this post, so I can't even acurately say whether this has happened before. As far as email ... yeah, I had to tell a very close friend of mine to stop sending me Bush propaganda, especially as she clearly knew that we sat on opposites of the fence. She was very gracious about it and has sinced ceased and desisted in trying to convert me. LOL!

Bizarre. I agree. Discussion of all kind -- in context -- is great!

I don't remember anything like that happening to me, but I have seen things in comments that seemed inappropriate for the time and place they appeared.

Those sort of comments always lead me to scratch my head because I wonder whether the person had actually read the post to which they were "replying" to.

Well, of course!

Oh, RLY? Well ... I think legwarmers are not genius, but pink is pretty.

Tact is also helpful. ;)

Oh yeah? But what side of the legging debate do you come down on? That's the crucial one, really.

I'm with the blue states, personally. Although I hear the bill regarding the legging debate is causing a lot of controversy in the House.

Hah! They're calling in Sienna Miller and Lindsay Lohan to testify on the pro-legging side. The Fug girls are coming in for the anti-legging side. Sienna and Lindsay don't stand a chance.

agoodboy said...

But the REAL question is who can spell "leggings" faster and better than Dan Quayle? Methninks the Fug girls would win, and I think that you'd agree with.

*Methinks* ... I should stop hyper-actively pressing the reply button before rereading a response or comment.

OH, yes. Tact is a wondrous thing. *nods*

I partially solved it, but not completely. I really need to work on my Sokuku skills. (gets ready for the next puzzle)
